I started watching the grocery spending 2 weeks ago, and hopped on the FTJ bandwagon a week ago ...it's only day 4 of the spending freeze for us. I was curious to see if our bank account was benefiting much yet. To my surprise, we are about $250 ahead of where we usually are this time of the month. This is GREAT news, since we are usually down to $0 at some point each month! So, I am thinking a semi-annual spending freeze (at least) may be in the cards for us...

My son had surgery last year, and we thought all of the bills were in and paid. Yesterday we got another bill for $403. Thanks to the spending freeze, we have enough extra money to cover this bill.

At first I was really upset that my hard earned savings was taken away that fast, but in the long run it feels great to have it covered.

Ok I was updating my finances in money and looking at how we did this january 2008 with FTJ compared to last January 2007. We Spent $700 less then we did last year!

I had do also look to what we did in 05 and 06. We had a higher income but we were spending $700 to $900 more then we did in 07.

It is amazing how much you can save if you look at buying only what you need instead of what you want.

I'm so proud of all of you!!! Doesn't paying off those bills feel so much better than spending the money?

The best feeling is NOT getting as many bills in the mail! And seeing more money in the bank at the end of every week! I'm so glad I found this site!

I've been doing FTJ project since it started (January) and believe it not we saved tons of money on groceries and by May 15th of this year we will be done paying our three cc ($10,000). One more month and we are feeling good about what's coming up June. Saving, saving, saving and investing. Our goal is to save close to $30K by the time we leave Germany (2010) and pay off two our vehicles which will be $12,000 by then.

Yes, the $20 box of diapers was getting old- potty training has helped the budget. Staying home saves us quite a bit. Every time we go out, we are tempted to spend money!

I started the FTJ project with the best of intentions. Then, slowly, it slipped away. I still read all the steps and lots of posts, but didn't consider myself "on" the program.

And still. When I did the budget for the month of May, I couldn't quite believe my eyes! Thousands of dollars where there used to be none! (We're working on building an emergency fund of 6 months of expenses.) I even discovered an account that had been automatically depositing $100 a month, had totally forgotten about, and now has $3500!

All the extra cash makes me feel like I want to splurge on some things - I get the same warm, fuzzy feeling I always have when I'm about to treat myself. But, the funny thing is, when I get something in my cart, most of the time I find myself reconsidering and deciding it's just not worth it!

FTJ by osmosis, I guess!
