As weird as this sounds I think it has been the modified spending freeze. It has really helped me open my eyes to what I spend and why. I learned alot about myself during the freeze but the modified freeze is helping to keep me sain.

That's funny because that's what I was thinking too.

I like the freeze because it gives me a challenge and it's brought DH and I together in different ways. DH and I are going to continue doing modified freezes each mo. Our plan is to sit and discuss the expenses at the beginning of each month to create our approved list on a month by month basis. I think this is really going to help us in reaching our goals while keeping sane at the same time.

Well, I am still in the first spending freeze but I am very happy doing it. I think the modified version will work well for us too. I already do that with most things. I like to price compare and plan my purchases. My issue will be the snack foods etc. but I am becoming a SAHM at the end of this week and grocery shopping and from scratch cooking is one thing that I am really planning to focus on. The spending freeze has already been great for forcing me to plan our meals better.

It's a tie between the freeze and step #18...Seeing where your money goes. Both were eye opening in the same way : "I spend how much on that?!"

Grab a notebook - knowing I will have to write it down if I buy something has caused me to pause and think more about those 'little' purchases that add up quickly!

The initial spending freeze was my fav too. I think having a total spending freeze every now and then would be great for me.

The complete spending freeze was definately my favorite. I was proud of myself for coming up with solutions when I normally would have run out to the store. It was also a very dramatic beginning to "the project", which I love. Another reason I liked it so much is because it was a very black and white step. It was very easy for me to know what I was allowed to purchase and what I could not... no second guessing myself.

I am starting the project today, once I go home and find a notebook for assignment #1, then on to the spending freeze. As scary as it seems, I'm glad to hear others enjoyed the experience. I've recently inherited some money (not a huge amount, but huge to me) and I'm terrified of going overboard and blowing it all on wants instead of paying off old debts and investing the remainder wisely.

I think this website and the Forget the Joneses Project might just save my financial future!
