I'm sorry this has taken so long. I'm away from the boards this week visiting my parents and their computer isn't working. This is the last of the debt steps. Next week we'll start the PURGE steps, which should be really fun!

Step #30: Accelerate Paydown
After coming up with a paydown plan, you should be able to see how long it will take to pay off your debt. For some of you, it's not fast enough. For others, you still don't have enough income to start paying down debt at all. We're going to brainstorm some ideas to accelerate your paydown by adding income or cutting expenses. Some ideas are more drastic than others, but if you're motivated to become debt-free you know that the feeling of financial freedom outweighs hanging on to material things.

Cut Expenses
Drop gym memberships
Cut kids' activities or find ways to get them for free, such as volunteering
Cut cable
Cut cell phones or landlines
Become a one-car family
Downsize your house (or apartment)
Move to a less expensive location

Additional Income
Get a part-time job
Have your spouse get a second job
Hold a garage sale
Sell off collectibles on eBay
Sell items on Craigslist

Assignment: Name the things you are willing to do to accelerate paydown. What are they? Can you share additional ideas with others?

For us We can
Cut eating out, Cut activities over 30 miles away, Cut activities that cost over $10, Cut buying leisure stuff and use the library

Foe Additional Income, Sell the Craigslist stuff, Ask for a raise, Change our Withholdings, Sell handmade things.

That's what I can think of at the moment. I would like to make more drastic changes but downsizing does not make any since for us. To find a Less expencive home it would mean moving way out to the country and with gas prices. We want to stick to the 5 min commute.

Oh here is my unique way of saving money We are Potty Training our almost 2 year old. No More diapers could save us around $300 a year.

Good luck with the potty training! I started potty training my daughter at 18 months and we're still not there yet and she's about to turn 3! I hope you have better luck than I did!! One of the great things about potty training is that you can really only be successful if you stay home almost all the time, so it's double savings!!

I'm thinking of taking a second job at a day care or hospital. Right now I work Saturday nights at JCPenney. I only make $26 a week!

My DD is almost 3 and isn't interested in the potty either! I'm hoping to potty train her within the next couple of months.
