Make Room for New Experiences
Decluttering is more than just getting rid of what you don’t want in your life anymore. It’s about creating room for new things and experiences to enter. What will getting rid of things allow you to do and accomplish? Here are some examples:

• If you want to procure new clients at work, clear out old files and create blank ones for new clients
• If you want to try your hand at writing, try clearing away some old clutter and creating a special new space for you to write
• If you want to learn a new topic, clear away old books that you’re not reading anymore to make space on your shelf for new interests
• Try clearing off your kitchen countertops to make more space for cooking if you want to hone your culinary skills

Decluttering Karma
What goes around comes around. If you want something to enter your life, try giving it away. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but it works. If you want friendship to enter, be a friend. If you want your spouse to be more compassionate, try showing him some compassion. The same principles work with material things. Ever notice how many women become pregnant again as soon as they give away all their baby gear? If you want to improve your wardrobe, donate old clothing to Goodwill. With the empty space you create, the more room there will be for new things and experiences to enter. Try it and you’ll see.

Attract More of What You Want
Just as I tell people that when getting rid of debt they shouldn’t focus on what is bogging them and instead focus on building wealth, the same applies to decluttering. If you focus on the clutter, you’re only seeing half of the equation. When you apply the law of attraction to your decluttering efforts, wouldn't it make sense that if you focus on clutter, that's what you attract into your life? That’s why when some people begin to declutter they are more sensitive to seeing junk all around them. Instead of dwelling on the negative, think about the positive.

Refer back to your vision of what you want your space to look like. Go one step further and imagine what feelings that space will provoke. Really think about the type of positive change you want to see in your space and in your life, and make sure your home reflects that.

Assignment: Review your list of goals. How can you create space for these new experiences to enter your life?

These are really great suggestions. I'll have to look at my goals and see how this method can help me make room for them.

I have Mine Broken Down By room

Desk areaPlace for Organizing. This will keep me ontop of my calendar, Weightloss goals by research, Archiving family photos goal and and a number of other ones
LivingPlace for relaxing Keeping the living space clean and declutter will alow me to feel like we can invite friends over
DiningPlace for eating I understand the importance of a family meal keeping the dining room table clear of Laundry and Mail will incourage us to have meals as a family instead of infront of the TV
KitchenPlace for trying out new recipies Up keep of the kitchen is an incentive for us Creating a work space and trying new things prevents going out to eat or ordering a pizza both down falls of us getting out of debt and weightloss goals
UtilityPlace for Laundry If I don't have to clear off the washing machine I may actually keep up on laundry. We have the goal to give this room a good overhaul in the next year
GaragePlace for projects and Building It needs to serve as storage and head quarters for our various home projects
BathPlace for better hygene Sad to say the layer of clothes on the floor has to go simplifing the bathroom hope fully can mean less time in it though we are potty training so we spend a lot of time in it and it needs to be a positive location
Bethany Place for play and Clothes Storage. Keeping Bethy's toys from Migrating to the rest of the house is a big goal. This is DDs kid space and its important to us that we have a kids space
BedSpace for Relaxing and Clothes storage Currently we can't walk in our bedroom It has become a dumping ground and I would like to at least be able to see the floor
Spare Space for learning. We have lots of hobbies this room has to be multi function. Able to be a guest room, able to store our book collection, able to be a work room for sewing (My goal is to learn how to sew) Having a sewing room is a good incentive

So thats it What I am looking for and how achieving it will help me meet my goals

but the decluttering stage is way harder for me than the ones before it.

I hate looking at all this junk but I am having a horrible time getting rid of it.

And I thought that my husband was the pack rat!

I like this one, the suggestions are true. I am always decluttering my kitchen counters, it's just a part of my daily routine, I swear!!
I keep them clean, but the kids seem to always think that I opened it up to them and their stuff. I ask them what's that room called that has your bed and your stuff is in it? Oh, that's right, YOUR room, that's your area and this is mine, never works!!!
