Really I have no problem giving away some stuff. Just to have it Gone. But there is a good way to get something back even if you are not getting money.
Last year I took stuff to donate to the Church Yard sale. I felt great about it because I never get to tithe as much as I would like to because it just isn't in the budget.
We had a old car a few years back. Easily donated and gotton rid of to the childrens Cancer Fund. And we claimed the value of the Vehical on our taxes so we did get something back.
Yes I will at least try to sell most stuff that I can since we do have the time. But I also know a gal who puts togethers semi annual kids stuff swaps and that would be an easy way. Though currently being on baby number 1 we are saving most things for the next baby. I have been boxing up clothing and sending it to my moms so it doesn't clutter my home and she has a lot more storage options

You must have been reading my mind. I have soooo much trouble letting go of clutter that I think I could "sell" or even that I think someone else could use. The other thread about ways to gift your clutter had some very good ideas, so I look forward to all the creative ideas on this thread to help me too. THANKS!!

Oh Kim, thank you so much, they will be shipped before the week is over. That is perfect, I love to give to those who truly appreciate it, and love to support the troops in anyway, we send small packages to the soldiers from time to time, so this is perfect.
You made my day, thanks so much

I have found that I bring most of my kids items to OUAC (Once Upon a Child.) You can get store credit or take home cash. What they are not able to take, I send to good will.
I tried a garage sale once and it was sooooo much work and I did make $200, but I missed out on some fun time with my kids. If you have neighbors that could do one with you, that is when it is the best. Your kids can play together and you get to chat to pass the time. With so much more visable at your sale, people tend to stop instead of the dreaded "drive-by shop."
I think that e-bay is alot of work also. I tend not to sell items unless I know they will get a large bid. This is due to all the percentages taken out of your final sale price. One time I actually lost money!
My standard for whether to try and sell or just donate is that I try to figure how much time it would take to sell. Then I try and figure how much I want or should make from the item. If I make less than minimum wage per hour trying to selling it, it is probably not worth the time it takes to sell it! That is just my personal opinion. I hope this helps!

I am getting ready to declutter my 5 year old sons toys, books, movies, puzzles, clothes etc. I teach at the school he will go to next year and almost everything I give away besides clothes will go to teachers at the school. All those little knick knack toys the teachers use in their prize or treasure boxes. The librarian loves donated books. Puzzles, legos, fisher- price toys are a jack pot for the kindergarten and 1st grade rooms.
This kind of donating makes me feel really good knowing so much use will come out of them.

I hate the idea of giving away something when I can make money on it... because for us every little bit of money helps make ends meet. I have done ebay in the past. Now with increased fees and such I will only post if something will bring in a good price- above $10 or so. I have started posting on craigslist too. I post one or 2 things after DD goes to bed.. (usually take 10 or 15 minutes to do) that is usually when I spend a lot of time on the computer anyways so why not try to make a little money at the same time. And in the process of decluttering I have thrown out stuff too- why oh why did I keep all my college notebooks and papers.... LOL
DH has been helping too when he is home.... although it is much harder for him to part with things so it has been a challenge. Although DH is talking about wanting to move to Florida to be closer to his parents (we are in OH) when our lease is up in August so I may end up just donating a bunch of stuff too.

I know I could make money on some things but just recently DH and I "Free Cycled" a bunch of Roof Shingles we had left over from our roofing project (last year). An older couple wound up picking them up and she was SO GRATEFUL, and it made me feel so good that we could do something like that for her. I'd rather give things away or donate them (I just donated 2 huge boxes of books to our local library, it is the smallest in the county and they were so nice and grateful for the books) plus the donations can be a tax deduction ,so in a way I do get something monetary back.

I give a lot of stuff away but some things I set aside for my sisters' garage sale every year. Still, there are things that won't sell there, which explains why I've been looking at this black sleeveless Evan Picone dress, worn once. I didn't make the bag for Purple Heart. I doubt it will sell at a garage sale. Seems like too much work to find a consignment store. So it just hangs there.
