Another type of clutter we haven't talked about yet. Is it hard for you to part with things that you know you could get something for on consignment, eBay, garage sales, etc? How do you reconcile decluttering with the feeling as if you're giving money away?

Dh went on this cleaning and purging spree this weekend and made a pile of giveaway and sell. We Craigslisted a bunch of lumber, tile, wood flooring (from the previous owners) and some toys the boys don't use anymore. I saw a few inquiries in my inbox this morning. Hopefully we can make a little bit off it! Every little bit counts
AND I have to say the garage looks AMAZING! Thank you flyboy!

What if you don't have time or energy to sell it? I have a few things around the house that are just there because I haven't had time to sell them yet. Is it better just to get rid of them? I'm starting to think I'd rather have everything gone than take the time and effort.

I feel the same way you do Kim. And although I'm not scraping by with finances, the thought of just giving it away (now that I'm frugal! ) just annoys me. I think it bothers me most because I wasted the money in the first place buying the item as it was not a necessity.
I have an area in my attic that is like a decorating store. I am a decorating-a-holic and when I see something pretty for the house, (if it's a great price) I would buy it. But, let's face it, how many nice decorative accents does one woman need for her home. So, I began rotating what's in attic with what's in the house and this is easy as I have a cohesive color scheme and style throughout.
Now, as a reformed shop-a-holic and decluttering wannna be, I really am disgusted at the money I spent. I think now it would have looked much better in my bank account or in a vacation/car fund. What was I thinking.
It really urkes me to garage sale them or give them away. Ah...the stupid choices we make with our money.

I'm really sorry for the mumbo jumbo posts, ladies. As you see, I have not had my coffee yet and I can't control my spastic fingers, nor do I know how to remove any of it from the board.

This is my biggest problem... with the 2 little boys, I cannot find the time to ebay the stuff I have, yet, the thought of giving collectibles away seems wrong somehow. My dh used to collect alot (before me)... he has wonderful dennis the menace items, still in original box, collected everything snoopy- in perfect condtion from 1960-1970's, lovely paddington bear things, still has fisher price toys from childhood in great condition, and too much else to mention, but it we are in the process now of getting rid of a storage unit filled with this kind of stuff and we are going to empty our attic. all this will go into the family room until we figure out what to do with it. I love giving to goodwill, but not this kind of stuff, our weekends are so busy with moving stuff out of storage, trying to have a family day, doing groceries, that there isnt enough time there either.... this has been what has held me back before, and at times I get so frustrated, I'll just say who cares lets just get rid of it so its out of here, but then I cant bring myself to throw money away like that.... so I can def relate to others..... oh yeah, did I mention hundreds and hundreds of those stupid beanie babies??? WTH,, my dh did that, if you can believe that... again before he met me.lol.

My husband is like this. He is slowly, but surely selling a few things on ebay. He worries about selling stuff now, when he thinks he will get more for it at a later time. I tell him he isn't getting anything for it if it sits in the closet.

I posted about this on the other thread. I reconcile by giving it to the most needy and then sometimes it just HAS to go and go NOW.
