I totally agree. There are great sides to both but I think that I would rather be in the middle!!

Just playing devil's advocate for the purpose of conversation, here: What benefits are there of being "poor" that you can't also implement when rich?

I would say rich. But not millions of dollars rich, maybe hundreds of thousands rich. That way people aren't knocking at your door for money every day. I would love to help all the people in the world, but come on...there are just too many people. I would not like to have that pressure.

I can't think of any benefits of being poor. I grew up poor and my mom was a stripper who spent all her money on drugs and we had to eat Ramen noodles every day. Fun! The effects of poverty(coupled with poor choices) sent both of my parents to jail and eventually led to my younger brothers criminal career as well. I cannot think of one single benefit at this moment. Sorry.

My parents are what some would call rich but they are miserable. I wouldn't want to be poor but I also wouldn't want to be like my parents where they worry about their money and someone taking it. We are well off and debt free and I am happy with that. No need to have more money than you can use.

I would say rich only because I have been poor. When I was a child we didn't have much money and we lived on a farm which was most of the time the only way we ate. ALL of our clothes came from neighbors or the thrift store. We lived in a very small town so everyone knew that the clothes I was wearing were theirs it was embarassing. My Mom when I was to tall for my jeans would sew ruffles of lace around the bottom. I could go on and on about the things that make me glad that I am not poor anymore. However my background is partly the reason I am in debt now. I didn't want to be poor anymore and a cc made me feel "rich". I sure am glad that I figured it out before I couldn't dig out of the debt and found a balance between the two worlds.

Rich. Without worrying about money it certainly makes life a little bit "easier". I think money does not make a person but rather magnifies who they are. Poor mean selfish people just become bigger mean selfish people that have money.
My aunt and uncle bless their souls are the most kindest and giving people I have ever known, the fact that they are quite wealthy has only made them better people.

Wealthy enough not to fight with your spouse over every purchase, and not having to worry, definitely!! I honestly can't imagine that anyone would choose to struggle if they didn't have to?

Since I can't edit my last post, I wanted to add here that dh and I are in the position that we do Not fight over any purchases, because when I re-read it it sounded like we Did!

We are both responsible with $$, if one of of us wants something and we can afford it we give each other the go-ahead. We have Never fought over money, not that we're rich by any means, but we do pretty well.

I would like to be in the middle also. Not too poor where we worry about our finances all the time. It would be nice to be able to pay all the bills as they come in and have a little extra for fun. I would love to have a nice nest egg to cover expenses and be able to travel to see family more often.
