I used to be completely guilty about this when I went to Bj's wholesale. I thought (especially if I had a coupon) that I could not go wrong with the deals. Then, when we moved last year I found I had stock piled way too much--in fact I had 5 bottles of shampoo--that is just ridiculous. Now I make a list and stick to it--it also helps when DH comes along and helps me avoid the impulse spending on DD

I never heard of the word "spaving" before. I'm very old school. Money isn't saved if it is not either staying in your pocket or in your bank account. I do shop sales, but only for things we use and need. I never was a big impulse spender even as a kid. In reality, I hate shopping. I'd rather be out doing something fun.

I'm guilty. I do this with kids stuff, clothes, toys and decorating things. The clothes work out with little ones, but I've learned to stop with the older kids. They become too picky about what they want to wear. Toys work out because I have a stash for birthday parties, but again only for younger kids. I have WAY too much stuff for decorating the girls rooms. I used to do this with kitchen stuff too. Getting better on that. I have lots of pots/pans/utensils/dishes that I don't need. I've been donating, but I really need to just get rid of all the extras.

I am so guilty at this when it comes to buying DS clothes. I'm trying to do better. The answer for me is to not go to the store, or if I need to be there for another reason, to not even go to the clothes.

Thank you for sharing the term "spaving" . I will think about that the next time I'm tempted to spave. I've been controlling my spaving for awhile. I was really bad about clothes & toys buying like some of the other ladies. I've been spaving more on groceries and think that I make out. I learned to go ahead and buy the 2 for sales of things I will definitely use.

So, is buying a membership to a wholesale club "spaving"? I've really been debating renewing my membership...the power of stockpiling, versus unnecessary expense. What do you think?

I don't think that a membership to Sam's (or something similar) is spaving. I guess it would depend on your shopping habits though. For me with my large family, it is very much worth it and very used!
