As a teen or young adult, what did you want to be when you grew up? How did you envision your ideal life? How is it different than how you're living right now?

A wife and Mommy is what I always wanted to be. It isn't as glamorous as I imagined! But, I love it!! I have to say though in todays world, at least where I am. Others don't see the job as important or as a selfless job like I do. It seems they view it as I must just eat bon bons all day and don't want to work. Truth be told I worker harder now than I ever did, because it drains your body and your mind!

I was once in my county pageant when I was 5 or so, and they always make you fill out a questionnaire that they read as you walk across the stage. I recently watched the video of it, and they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I said "a Mommy!". It was so true, though. The most important thing to me wasn't success or money, but to be a wife and mother. I can truly say it's the most wonderful job there is!!

I wanted to be a nurse. But then I met dh, fell in love and just wanted to have his babies. I still might go to nursing school once my youngest ds starts school. It would take a while, but I think it would be worth it.

OK, new rule. You CAN'T say wife or mother. For most of us, that's a given. Besides that, what were your dreams as a young adult?

A novelist or a journalist or a chaplain.

I had such romantic notions about where I would end up writing novels on some Greek island. My life is no where near that but I'm still pretty happy.

you are going to think i am CRAZY.
I wanted to be a photojournalist on the front lines of a war zone.
I wanted to get the best shots (well hoping there isnt a war) I would have been happy just being a photojournalist.

the other thing I was interested in was being a teacher for special needs kids mostly for Mentally handicapped children.

Well, I chose my college because it had a good business program. I envisioned myself as a business person of some sort. I stayed in the business college for exactally 1 semester. I really did not like it. Then I was majoring in Sociology with no clue what I wanted to be. Then I switched to Elementary and early childhood education which I am still very interested in. But I ended up majoring in Sociology since I had to work and could never finish my student teaching. I have worked as many things over the year: Bookkeeper, secretary, cataloger in a library, daycare teacher, nursing assistant, housecleaner, rebate processor, waitress, in a daycenter for developmentally disabled adults and now as a special education para. I am very happy with my current job, but I am still not sure what I want to be when I grow up!! (I am almost 44)

As far as being a mother, I always wanted to be one, but I certainly never expected me to have a big family like this!!!! (BTW I have never really wanted to be a SAHM, though I have done it periodically)
