Question What are some ways someone gave from the heart and did something nice for you?

Have you received homemade gifts, favors, or other things that showed that someone really cared? What were they?

Lately, people have been super kind to us. Since we've lost our home, my neighbor particularly (who is in the same situation) has done a few sweet things for us. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (is that right?? ) and right after the hurricane, left us a big bucket full of cleaning supplies. Just two days ago, she left us a huge box of leftover food (non perishable) from the church, as well. I just love her. We don't need the food, so I'll more than likely donate it, but the thought is so terribly kind and generous. It really is nice to see people can still be helpful, kind, and sweet, and come together to help each other after a catastrophe, makes my heart smile everytime.

That's awesome, she sounds like a really kind person.

I keep remembering all the nice things people did for us when my mom was in the hospital last summer. My friend came over to help watch our cat, and her mom even cleaned the litterbox for us - now that's friendship!

My mom was first diagnosed with Cancer in 1995 and at that time I was having huge room mate issues, my then boyfriend (now dh) left for bootcamp and I was flunking my classes. Times were horrible. One day I got really down and just let it all out. I avoided the phone all day. My friend was worried about me (as we normally talked on the phone all the time) put two and two together and brought over a blueberry pie (my fave) with ice cream for us to share.

It was the most thoughtful and heart felt thing ever!

Well, this one is a biggie and happened YESTERDAY!! Earlier this summer a couple of church donated their used laptop to me to make my job easier (I work for the church as the preschool ministry coordinator and spend a good bit of time on the computer planning events, making schedules, putting out newsletters, etc.). Well, there was something wrong with the computer and it kept shutting me down. The man took it home with him on the 4th of July (we had a party at our house, and he took it home that day!) and has been working on it all this time. Well...it couldn't be fixed. He brought it back to me yesterday saying there was nothing to be done. THEN........he pulled out a box behind his back. It was a BRAND NEW LAPTOP!!!! OMG! He went and bought me a brand new laptop!!!! I was SHOCKED! Of course, it technically belongs to the church as we will be able to give him a tax receipt that way, but it is specified for me...and is mine as long as I work there! Is that not AWESOME?!?!?!

I know this may sound small to some but today I received a card from my mom-in-law. We were looking at her scrapbooks the last time we were up and I saw a pic of dh and I that she had put in a book. I told her that I wished I had a copy because I've never seen that one before. Well she found one and mailed it to me plus she had written in the card that she was so glad I married her son.

I remember another time about 11 years ago when dh and I were 1st married that my dh was laid off and we had a baby and not much groceries. A member from our church said they were cleaning out their fridge and wondered if we could use any of their excess. They had given us about 2 or 3 bags of groceries that was much needed.

I've been fortunate to be the recipient of SO Many blessings from others.

In the past year, we've been the recipients of monetary gifts from family, friends and complete strangers to help cover medical expenses. Some were from people I've never even heard of!

I've recieved hundreds, yes hundreds, of cards in the mail. Many friends and family told their scrapbooking club or other friends about me and those people sent me notes and beautiful cards. They kept my spirits high during the early months of chemo/radiation. I so looked forward to getting the mail each day!

My karate instructor and dear friend recently grew her hair long enough to donate in my honor to Locks of Love!

My aunt has bought new clothes for each of my four kids at the turn of each season since I became sick. And, her friend's daughter sent a huge sack of beautiful hand-me-downs for DD.

Some have made delicious meals and delivered them to our home.

The friend who was my maid of honor is now a hairstylist. She visited me the first day after I came home from surgery to cut my hair. They had shaved half my head for the surgery and left the other half at shoulder length. They also had not been careful to clean my remaining hair following surgery and it was matted in places with blood. She can barely stand the sight of blood, but she cut my hair for me that day.

A classmate and friend from high school mailed letters to each of our classmates (she's on the reunion committee) suggesting a card shower for me for encouragement. I received some wonderful letters from old classmates with pics of their families and pictures colored by their children. It was wonderful!

A friend loaned me her favorite inspirational book on CD for our long rides to/from appointments. Others loaned me inspirational books.

I was surprised one day to receive a basket of goodies from the flower shop. It contained pictures of my kids when they were younger, fun pictures of DH when he was little and goofy pics of my MIL along with lotions, an angel and a silly get well card. It wasn't signed, and we had the funnest time trying to figure out who sent it! We finally figured out that it was DH's cousin.

Years ago, FIL and his wife were vsiting. During the course of the conversation, she discovered that our vacuum cleaner had just died. The next week, they visited again and brought an Electolux for us.

A business acquaintance recently emailed that she sent my name with some friends to the Wailing Wall for special prayer!

I attended a weekend ladies' retreat some 11 years ago. During the retreat we received wonderful tokens from others who had attended the retreat in the past. They were little things like bookmarks, notes of encouragement, snacks and trinkets. But, it was such a nice surprise to always find something special waiting when I went back to my bunk! And, at the end of the retreat, I received a sack of letters from family, friends and acquaintances. They were letters of love, gratitude and inspiration! I cherish these letters even today!

This August while i was shopping for the kids school clothing at Savers, i had this huge pile of clothing on the counter at the register. While the cashier was adding it all up, the lady behind me in line was digging thru her coupon organzier and asked if had the special coupon. I had no idea what she was talking about and of course said No. She asked the cashier if it was still valid and if she could give it to me. Turns out this stranger was a frequent shopper at Savers and had a coupon for 50% off your total purchases. I've never seen the lady before in my life and she just handed it over to me.I was floored! I got this huge pile of clothing for both kids for just a little over $60 and most of it was top name brand stuff. Yes, it's a used clothing store but it's all in excellent shape. I was so excited i must have said Thank You a billion times, i even hugged her before i left. I've never had a stranger be that nice before.......good to know there are still good kind people in the world yet!

Babysitting is a great and inexpensive way to make a big different in someone's lives.
