and you're going to buy it anyway (eventually), what do you do?

Are you putting off purchases, just until next week? Are you seriously reconsidering them? Are you buying them anyway?

I guess I'd still wait if it's possible. The spending freeze is somewhat of a de-tox from shopping: it gets you into the habit of waiting to make purchases and forcing you to get by without certain things. Like you said, it makes you reconsider what you spend your money on.

On the other hand, if it's a necessity, you're 100% sure you will buy it anyway, and you would get a better deal by getting it this week I'd say go for it and add it to the "approved" list.

Out of curiosity... what is the item?

Food stuff, I'm not buying unless there's just no other way to feed the family. That's really not the case, so the only things I put on the approved list is bread, milk, and some veggies.

Other stuff I'm just putting off or really reconsidering...

Some things are just being put off, like food, but I am seriously reconsidering what I "need" in that category as well. Like, I normally have a Hot Pocket for lunch and have run out. I'm having to think outside of my normal rut to find something else to eat. It has made me realize that I need to do that more often, so Hot Pockets are no longer on my list!

Other things are just being put off til next week. I need to get the boys a lunch box for summer school, so I will be buying those next week. This exercise has really made me think about those purchases though too. I'll be looking for a deal instead of just buying what's at the store that I happen to be at during that moment.

For me personally, I didn't buy a subscription to an online service although I normally would have because it was cheap. That was on the first day! Yesterday, I was thinking that maybe I didn't really need it and today, I'm thinking I won't ever buy that. I seem to have a problem with impulse buying. Especially if it's relatively inexpensive. I've already learned from this exercise that I need to think on things for a few days before purchasing!

I ran out of tan felt while making a toy sack lunch for M's friend's birthday. I went ahead and bought it (with a 40% coupon, of course). I could have bought it next week and still had time, but I wanted to get it done already.

If I was going to by some eventually then I would scope out prices and possibly use a coupon. (just like you did).

I'm making a list of things I "need" and "want", and I'm trying to wait the full three weeks before purchasing any of the items, if they get purchased at all. We'll see!

I went shopping today for ideas. Saw lots of great deals and passed them buy.

As for me there is a few Birthday gifts I may have missed. So off to walmart to buy a my little pony for one of Bethy's little friends.

I just know where a spending freeze helps me and that is with getting out of the eating out habit
