I think we would do the obvious things: pay off mortgages, college funds, help family. The truly best thing for us would be to make a difference for someone else. Not just big things, but little things. I know we would set up a scholarship or two and fund different charities but what really is important is time. This would give us the ability to spend more time with our extended family and help them. We would also be able to do more things to help others, from volunteering at the food bank to just helping neighbors. My dad is older and mostly recovered from a stroke. He is always willing to give us money for anything we need. This year for my birthday I told him I wanted 2 hours of his time. 1/2 hour for each of my kids (DS preschool graduation, dance recital- just DD2 song, and swim meet - just DD1 events) and 1/2 hour for ice cream with me at the marina. He didn't make DS graduation and boy did he hear about it from my DDs. I wanted to show the kids that people are more important than money. I think winning the lottery can make you a generous person with more than just money.
