We're working hard to get the kids' college funds built so they won't have the challenges we had just to start out as an adult. Hope, optimism and planning works for us.

I like the idea of 100 dreams (wow, that's a lot!). I think I'll get the whole family in on this one!
Yes, I agree. I think it comes down to finding ways to create the feelings you're really after: whether it's seeing a specific type of house or in a certain environment, experiencing the big things on your list on a smaller scale, or even being around people that are more like the type of person you want to become. Engaging your emotions and feelings speeds the process.

With FTJ I always like to start with the 100 dreams project and use them as a basis for creating goals (which I think of as dreams with a workable plan). As adults, we really get out of the habit of dreaming about things. We censor them and don't allow ourselves to get caught up in things that aren't doable in our own minds instead of stretching the limits of possibility.

I'm glad you're giving it a try! Once you do it the first time, it's fun to save your spreadsheet and go back and re-evaluate. It's much easier the second or third time around.

Not so much see the material things, like the big, multi-million$ houses for reasons of envy, but more for the reasons of setting goals. We get a nice feeling when we're in those areas of town. Great little boutique malls (where we browse but just have a coffee/tea and light lunch at), we just window shop and enjoy the weather and atmosphere. We look at landscaping at the homes and steal ideas for our own home. We actually come away with the motivation to do more and yes, to plan to save more so we can spend more......someday, like when we see really nice furniture.
We do that too! We love to take walks in the nicer neighborhoods - like in CA we'd walk along the boardwalk and look at all the beach houses. It doesn't make us envious, just aspire for what we could have someday if we save (or what we could have and won't 'cause we'll be spending it on traveling instead of a fancy house I have to clean )
