This is my first time to Mommysaver! I believe I have gotten a cool tip already. Just yesterday I was thinking about freezing milk. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try it. Milk runs out fast here and like the idea of having extra without the spoilage. Thanks again!

I think I will try this w/the half gallon size, we always seem to run out of milk before my husband gets paid again. Thanks for the info.

Def. do the half gallon. A whole gallon takes about forever to thaw! Just set it in the sink in the morning and forget about it until lunch time....shake it...see how it is doing and keep letting it sit until you only hear a little bit of ice. Then put it in the fridge on a lower shelf or to help it along more....have a glass or two!~

Thank you so much for the info on freezing milk. I have always wanted to try it since we go through 4-5 gallons a week, but have never dared. Now I can try it

I grew up in a military family and we did this all the time..........I still do it. Just thaw it in the dish drainer and then when there is just a little bit of ice I shake it up and put it in the fridge.

I do this as well but with plastic Gallons. I never take any out either. The night before I take it out and leave it all night, shake it in the a.m., will be enough for ds's breakfast. I keep checking and shaking it through the day, by dinner it's usually done, or I'll put it in the fridge at night and if it's still partially frozen the next day I just take it out again for a few hours. I've never had any problems.

I have friends that scoff at this, and say they don't drink 'frozen' milk. Little did they know their bread that I just served them was thawed Frozen bread, ditto the cheese on their grilled cheese sandwich. I freeze just about everything and no running to the store for a silly gallon of milk and loaf of bread!!

Great tip on freezing milk! Additionally, it helps keep the other items in your freezer cold so your freezer doesn't have to work as hard.

P.S. The cheapest milk in my area is at Sam's Club and Aldi.

You dont have to just use the plastic jugs. We have wic and my son has to have lactose free milk and it only comes in the half gallon carton like containers with the screw on top though and I have been frezzing it for almost 3 years..works great...and still taste the same..
