I just found this out and wanted to share...some of you may already be wise to this.

You can freeze milk for up to 3 months! Be sure to pour out 1 cup of the milk first and it must be in a plastic jug.

I just found 1% milk on sale for $2.81 and decided to try this. I hope you can't taste a difference once it thaws out!

I use to freeze milk all the time. I found the half gallon jugs work best and you don't have to pour any out of those. The plastic half-gallon jugs have a large enough indent on the side to allow room to expand. I didn't like freezing the gallon size jugs mostly because they take way too long to thaw. You do have to let the whole thing thaw so you can mix it up good, otherwise it will taste funny.

I used to do this.I would make a mess of it when it was thawing out and gave up on it.If I would have taken out a cup of the milk first it would have made it so much better!

I freeze the gallon sized ones. They do expand and turn yellowish when frozen. I never open it before I freeze it. It does take along time to thaw!

I freeze milk all the time and once it thaws I shake it really good and I cannot tell the difference. I buy whatever is on sale, 1/2 gallon or gallon. I would rather freeze the 1/2 gallon though because it will defrost quicker.

I'm going to try it this week. Half gallons were on sale for $1.00.

HyVee, skim, 1%, or 2%. I don't think whole milk was included in this sale.

How do you unthaw it? Just take it out and put it in the fridge?

I thaw mine out right in the dish drainer. That way the condensation just runs off into the sink. I take mine out in the morning, set the container on it's side in the drainer, and turn it (being careful not to shake it around too much) every hour or so. It's so cold that it won't go bad being unrefridgerated. Then, after several hours I put it in the fridge on a towel. When it's completely thawed, shake good and drink!
