Do you have any secrets for freezing store bought bread and tortillas to keep them tasting fresh once thawed? Thanks.

I freeze my bread as soon as I get home from the store (I buy in bulk when on sale) I don't refreeze it though, it just goes in the fridge but then again we do use a loaf a day....

I wanted to know the answers for tortillas too.....

I have found that sunbeam bread freezes better than most brands. It also stays fresh on the counter alot longer than the other brands. I buy it at the bread store on 1/2 price days and I get 8 loafs for $3.00. I freeze them in their wrappers in a box the bread store gave me to carry them home in.

I freeze bread and both flour and corn tortillas. I never refreeze though. I put the tortillas in ziploc bags.

so you don't put the bags of bread into anything else (another ziploc)? Just throw the bag of bread in it's original twist-tied bag into the freezer? Doesn't it get all frosty?

We freeze our bread. We had a problem with frost oand soggy bread when we thawed it. A few months ago we put a layer of styrofoam on the self we keep the bread. We have had no frost since then. It has something to do the bread touching the metal shelf and drying it out.

We freeze our bread in the original package. And we thaw it in the fridge, not on the counter. Always tastes fresh to me.

Not sure about tortillas.

I defrost it in the fridge, not on the counter.

I usually freeze it in the door though. I have always just thawed it on the counter and never had any problems.
Sometimes it has been a little dry but I think that mostly depends on how long it has been frozen for and if it was on the metal shelf. I am not sure though. I am new to freezing foods.

Cooks Magazine just did an article on this. They test all the different methods then write about them.

They said to double wrap the bread. When defrosting it, let it defrost upside down in the refrigerator, then wrap it in foil (that can be your first layer in the freezer if you like), and bake it a few minutes in the oven. When it comes out, it is just like fresh.

BTW, I keep my bread in the refrigerator. It stays fresh - and doesn't go moldy.
