Hi! I am trying to go green on my cleaners... I bought tea tree oil for my shower where it is getting moldy on the edges, anyone know how to dilute it ( ratio ) ?

Any other uses for tea tree oil?

Thanks!

This is what I use for my shower when it gets a bit of mildew in the grout. Take an old cup, fill it generously with baking soda. Then add a good bit of lemon juice (I use realemon). Leave plenty of room in the cup b/c it will foam a lot with the lemon juice and vinegar. After the lemon, add some vinegar. This should be a very pasty texture. Then take an old toothbrush, stir and apply in a scrubbing motion to your grout and let it sit a good bit. I usually only do this once a month or so. My regular weekly shower cleaning ususally just consists of sprinkling a generous amt of baking soda on the shower floor and spraying essential oil treated vinegar all over the tile. I let it sit and then rinse off. The paste is not something I need to do a lot. If you add tea tree to it. I would put just a few drops after the soda, but I usually just use tea tree in my floor and all purpose cleaner.

When I mop my tile floor, I put 1 cup of vinegar to 2 gallons of hot water. I add about 10 drops or so of tea tree oil to the vinegar before adding the water. Once it's dry, I rinse with clear water. It does a fabulous job and really shines. Hope this helps...

Tea tree is also great for disinfectant in laundry. You can add a few drops to your wash. I also put it in my vinegar/water solution to use around the house.

I have a bottle I purchased at Walmart near the vitamins.

I've heard adding this to shampoo is good for keeping lice away, but it smells awful, I think DD would freak if I added it to hers. I'm also wonder - do you add it to the bottle or a few drops as you are washing? And how much?

This is a casual observation and I'm not sure if it is completely right. It is early September her and we have a nat problem. Those annoying little bugs are throughout the house right now and will be until the first freeze. I noticed last night that my bathroom (the one room in the house where I often use tea tree oil) and where it was a strong smell of tea tree oil was the only room that didn't have any nats. Just an observation.

I usually get my tea tree oil from the health food store. Check your prices sometimes it can be very pricey. Sometimes it isn't.

Vitacost.com is the cheapest I have found for my essential oils. I bought about 8 of them (including a 2 oz of tea tree) for under $20. You can't beat that at all...

I get my TTO from Melaleuca, which is where they get their name from. It's not expensive through them. I think $6 or so for a bottle that lasts a long time.

Summeranne: I used to use a TTO shampoo and it worked really well. You wouldn't put so much in the shampoo that it would have a strong smell, though. Just a few drops will do. I personally like the smell.

Just so you know....don't use tea tree oil in your bath. Dh thought it would be a good idea to use it as an oil in his bath one time. You should not bathe in it. It's not good for mucus membranes. OUCH.
