If you buy non-organic seeds to start a garden and even if you yourself do not put any pesticides on them, are they still considered organic?

Good question. I know they sell organic seeds, and I suppose that should guarantee that they aren't GM (genetically modified), too. But, I would think that if you grow any seeds organically, they would be safe, unless they are GM.

If they are non organic seeds than they are mostly like GM seeds. This is exactly why I intend to get a green house. Organic seeds are pretty reasonable, organic plants are NOT! After you buy your first round of certified organic seeds, you can just save some of them from your veggies and use them for planting the next year.

Remember though, organic or not, if you buy the hybrid seeds and grow plants from those seeds, they are "designed" so you cannot keep your seeds from your plants for next season. If you want to grow keep your seeds you need heirloom plants. Most of the seeds that you buy from local stores are hybrids.

I found some heirlooms at Home Depot this summer, so I bought up a bunch. I never did get around to planting them, though...
