I have heard that tea tree oil is great to use on foot fungus. I actually use it on my big toenails to prevent them from thickening (which tends to run in the family). I bought mine at Vitamin World and it has a little brush applicator to make it even easier!

How to get rid of grease and grime inside your oven...

Make a paste of one-cup vinegar and 1/4 cup powdered laundry detergent.
Heat your oven for 5-minutes at 350 degrees and turn off.
Spread the paste around the oven, applying it more heavily to very greasy areas. Leave paste on for an hour, and then use a plastic spatula to gently scrape the dirt away.

To prevent greasy buildup in the first place, dip a sponge in full-strength vinegar and wipe down all sides of the oven

Make Your Own Natural Healthy Fabric Softener:


2 cups baking soda
2 cups white vinegar
4 cups water.


Mix these ingredients and use 1/4 cup per load in the final rinse.

She is pretty much allergic to everything so detergents & cleaners that work well but are safe for her are very important to me. We have to use all perfume, dye, & bleach free items. Even our detergent & fabric softener has to be free of all dye's & perfume's. ANY SUGGESTIONS on some home made items that are safe for her????

I love this thread of discussions, just the topic I am so passionate about - Eco-friendly housekeeping.

I can confirm that Baking Soda and Vinegar are by far the best green cleaning agents ever. I use them everyday in my house. Baking soda is a much more effectivde scouring agent than those commercial creamy chemical you can buy from supermarkets. In addition, baking soda is a natural substance that means no harm to humans, pets and environment. I recently clean my baking tray with baking soda and my baking tray is now shiny new with no scratches whatsoever.

Does anyone have a recipe for a homemade "Clean Shower"? My husband is addicted to it. This isn't just a shower cleaner, it is supposed to prevent the shower from getting dirty. He sprays a ton after his shower everyday. So far, I am just diluting it w/ vinegar. I'd love some suggestions!

I used the baking soda too and everything sparkles. You just have to make sure to rinse well. Baking soda with a little dawn will clean just about anything. I used it on the screen (filter) for my exhaust fan and I had tried everything else. This left it sparkling and almost new.
