Rechargeable battery ?

This may be a dumb question! I have 3 different sets/brands of rechargeable batteries can I recharge one set/brand on a different brand/sets recharger thingy?

I would advise against this.....
My Mom Friend have had a rechargeable battery spitting battery acid due to being put in the wrong charger. The spitting stuff actually blinded their dog.
