There was an electric lawn mower on HGTV that they called green... and I can understand why sort of, because it does not produce emmisions from gas. BUT you still have to get the energy from some where, ie: you have to plug the sucker in for 18 hours... There seems to be lots of these things coming up saying they are green, but makes you wonder if they really are.

Whats your take??

I think it is the better of two evils.

I was reading somewhere today the difference, energy wise, between your dryer and paper towels and evidently a lot less energy is used when you dry your cloth towels compared to those paper towels.

Be really green and use a reel mower, problem solved. - Although their is still an enviromental impact as there is a manufacturing plant someplace that is building these mowers, the energy and pollution they put off from building the mower. However, most of this reel mower is built of metal, which of course is recyclable.

However, back on topic:

I guess some of that arguement would need to look at the source of the plug in mover... is that wall energy come from nuclear, wind or coal?

Coal energy is very dirty... I wonder if anyone has modified there gas mower to run on waste veggie oil? I bet someone has...

You know that is not a bad idea... running small engines- like mowers - on used veggie oil! Our friend runs his truck on used veggie oil ( we call it the french fry truck )

I guess that is what I am wondering, all these things now that are stating they are green, yet when it comes down to it really may not be.... I think these companies are getting the "green" bug for marketing

Did the show say how long it would run on an 18-hr. charge? I just wonder what size lawn you would be able to mow on that amount of charge.

Another thing I read about these mowers( that alot of people LOVE about them) is that they are no where NEAR as noisy as gas mowers. So, that would be a big plus!! But do they do as good a job? I don't know. I wish I'd seen the show, though.

I would LOVE one of the reel mowers. A lady down the street has one and I am in awe of her whenever she's out there mowing. It really does a good job, too.

I could mow during nap time, with the baby monitor on me and then dh wouldn't have to when he got home from work.

I was thinking that the ones that I seen that the lawn movers that were being up in the back of the truck was from solar. I may be wrong.

We have one of those old push mowers!! the problem is its soo old that the blades are rusted out! it was dh grandpa!!
