Hey girls!
I moved to Florida just this year. Coming from Indiana, I never gave growing a pineapple any thought.

Then I found out that they can "volunteer"--like tomatoes do up north if you miss picking them or just toss a rotten one outside (do you know what I mean?).

Anyway, I know someone who just tosses his pineapple tops into his flower bed. It's a low maintenance/low effort way of growing them! I guess it just turns to compost if it doesn't root!

I have one planted in my flower bed, but I started it inside in a bit of water. I've got another one starting on the porch now.

I do think that they take a very long time to grow fruit. The one in the yard is almost 7 months old and it doesn't look much bigger than when I planted it!

My mother has one that is doing extremely well. It took 2 years for the first pineapple fruit to come, but I think after that first one it didn't take as long for more pineapples to grow. I tried and they were doing well until my ex ran them over with the lawnmower...they never quite came back after that!

I cut one up yesterday but it got thrown away, I did another while ago and will try and plant it, I tryed along time ago and it rotted but i didn't cut it like it said, so maybe it will do better now. But in this Oklahoma weather you never know if it will freeze tomorrow or not!!!

After having to rescue my pinapple heads twice..dh just didn't buy the idea and threw them away this morning. I found them. Cleaned them, cut them til I could see root. Peeled back some of the leaves to form a stem look and laid them to dry out for approx. 7 days. I will update as often as I can.

Dh isn't sure this is going to work, I so hope that out of my 2 pineapple plants I can get atleast one...
