I posted this in the homemade green cleaners but wanted to make sure some of you ladies that might be interested see it. I started using this instead of plain vinegar. It works a little better!

Homemade Fabric Softner
4 cups water
2 cups vinegar
2 cups baking soda

Shake well. 1/4 cup per load.

I'll have to try this. I've been using plain vinegar. Thanks! Might make my vinegar last a bit longer!

Making a batch right now! Though I don't think I have that much baking soda ... guess I'll try a cup of that!

I tried it because I was going through a ton of vinegar.

Does the vinegar make your clothes smell like vinegar?

Me too! Though I would assume that the baking soda would help with smells as well. I'm drying my first batch as I type!

Thank you SkiMommy! I like this recipe and I suspect it will save a ton of vinegar for me! Not to mention I was able to re-use an old vinegar bottle -- our local landfill thanks you too!

You're welcome!

You know what, I found out that I do not need any fabric softner with the new detergent I've been using. The clothes are fine without it. I think I'll use my batch of softener for softsrub for the tub... LOL!

When my little 80 load bag of detergent runs out, I'm buying the bucket. My hubby thinks it is awesome.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to give this a try. I have to admit that I haven't been completely taken with just the vinegar.
