I am starting to recycle, and I am wanting to do it without taking up so much space, and making it conveniet and easy. Any suggestions?

We keep it in garbage bags in the basement until I can't stand it anymore and then I take it to the recycling center.

I store ours on the landing that goes to our basement. The trash can is there, a box for paper and bags hanging on the coat hanger for plastic and aluminum. (I don't hang coats there) It's not ideal for me, but it's the only way I can do it right now.

I kind of like that idea of a coat rack that you can hang bags for plastic and cans. That is what we have the least of. The paper lies flat in a box, then.

Thanks,

Well how do you guys get your kids and husbands to put the recylebles were they should go instead of throwing them away? I will take the extra step to put it were it should go. But I can so see everyone else just pitching it because that is the easyer thing to do.

I keep a paper bag by the trashcan for the recyclables. Just train your kids and hubby to put it in there. I've been known to go through the trash!

I'm thinking of getting another stainless steel trashcan for the recyclables to put next to my trashcan to keep my doggies from getting into it!

HTH!

We have two bins in the garage for recycling (we have curbside pick up on trash day). The one we use for glass/metal/plastics was given to us by the county. The other one is an old lidded one that I use for paper/cardboard.

I rinse out all my plastics, metals and glass and put them in blue grocery store bags. I tie the top and toss the bag into our recycling bin from our trash hauling company. I keep the bin on top of the fridge inside our garage, so it's close by to just open the door to the garage and toss the bag in there.

Cardboard I toss into the bin at the bottom of the stairs in our garage. The kids and DH flatten the boxes for me.

Paper I have a box in the office, and then also a box in the garage. When it starts to get full, Dh takes it away. LOL

My Mom uses paper grocery bags. She makes a cuff around the top edge so the bag stays open and they just sit on a table on her breezeway. She has one for metal, one for plastic and one for glass. When they're full, she takes them to the dump when she takes her garbage.

Ours sits in the garage just outside the kitchen door. I have an old kitchen trashcan that the lid broke for our plastics and glass. Cans go into grocery bags, and paper goes into our recycle box that was left here when we bought the house. It tends to collect on the kitchen counter and then I'll take care of throwing them out to the garage and actually delivering them to the recycle center about once a week.

If you drop off your recycling to the large bins, plan on dropping off the cardboard and such to the dropoff location asap on Christmas morning or waiting a few days. That's the busiest time for the recycle center around here!
