I work at one.
We don't double coupons. Each store is run differently so if you're lucky to live in an area that has multiple hy-vees check the papers for one day or 3 day weekend ads (these will be completely seperate from the normal weekly or biweekly ads). One store might run a sale while the others do not. We DO price match if it's an ad from one of the other stores or from the Hy-Vee Drugstore.
Also check with your hy-vee as we have a flyer with coupons for hot foods, cold case salads in the kitchen, etc although this normally comes out in the free weekly penny paper thingy- but there's always extra in the kitchen dept if you ask.
The meat manager at my store discounts his meat at the end of the night. He's anal about rotation so he frequently discounts hamburger to 99 cents a lb (fresh ground stuff) as well as other things.
We discount dry goods if we end up with an entire pallet of something. As someone else said, you can get cereal cheap at times for a buck.
Policy is if the shelf price and the scanner dont agree, you get the item free- this should be company wide.
Sometimes we run specials, mostly in the winter months, that if you buy a certain product or group of products, you can get a piece of cookware cheap. The whole beef roasts and crockpot thing every year comes to mind. Not exactly a deal unless you're in the market for that particular product.
