I have found simple ways to save money on my meat purchases. We go through alot of breakfast sausage, bacon, ground beef and chicken.

I have found that if I buy these products in bulk and bag them up separetly then they seem to be cheaper and last longer. Expecially BACON and SAUSAGE. I buy the largest packages available and put just enough in individual bags or make up individual patties and freeze them. This way I am only using the exact amount that I need. Before I started doing this I always had left over sausage or bacon.

This works great for the ground beef, chicken, pork chops and such. If you buy bigger packages the price per pound is usually cheaper

You only will be thawing out the right amount you need for each meal. Nothing goes to waste.

Does anyone else do this?

Yes I do. Esp for chicken. I'll get at least one package of the leg quarters and thighs and break them up into dinner quantities. One package of each will usually last us 3 weeks.
I get the 92% ground beef from the commissary and it comes in about 1.3 lb packages. I usually just freeze those as they are. I rarely break up the ground beef, too much work for just two of us when the package will give us leftovers for next days lunch as it is.

I do this with Chicken and Ground Beef but then I take it a step further. I package some chicken breasts individually so I can pull out only what I need for some meals. I then cook the rest of the chicken, diced or shredded, and freeze it in ziplock bags. I do the same with ground beef by freezing some and then make both hamburger patties (uncooked) and taco meat (cooked) to freeze too. It makes dinner time very easy to have some prep already done!
