How do you save money on your herbs and spices?

What about condiments?

Herbs, I grow what I use fresh in my yard...

Spices, I often buy in bulk (I love Penzey's for spices!) and share with family members. We'll go in on several things, divy it up and it works out well for everyone. I'll also keep an eye in my regular grocery stores, so when they have good deals, I'll pick up what I use most often. I tend to buy the smaller containers of grocery store spices because they're not the freshest/most flavorful...but sometimes I do need to use them if I run out of my Penzeys.

Oh I forgot condiments...again, I keep the prices in my price book for what we buy and I buy it where it is the cheapest. We're brand specific for condiments, I can get good deals on them, it just depends.

I use to grow my own herbs, but now I just buy Penzey's!

Condiments I usually just stick with Kraft!

This is one area that I normally won't skimp on!

Thanks for the tip about Penzeys. I have never heard of them, but they have a store here so my mom and I will have to go check them out. I'm out of a bunch of spices.

I grow a lot of my own and try to get the others on sale. Winn Dixie and Sweetbay here have really good sales every few months on buy one get one. I try to stock up on condiments when those sales are on. Of course I use coupons during those sales too.

To me the best buy is buying them at a local store you can buy as much or little as you want. This is especially helpful at Christmas and I bake. I may need 1/2 tsp. of something. Why buy a bottle? I buy what I think I need, then buy fresh the next year. It is not cheap per pound, but saves a TON because I need so little and would waste a majority of a bottle.
We don't buy too much in the condiment department. I just watch for sales when I know I m low.

Personally, I think the seasoning packets they have out there are great deals. Lately, there have been some good coupons for McCormick. I was able to get 3 different types of grill seasonings for free with coupons. These have all kinds of great spices in them. Coupons have helped for condiments too. I have gotten all the Kraft dressings (which can be used as marinades) and Kraft BBQ sauces free with the Kraft coupons that are out now too. I am waiting to find a good deal on mustard now too.

I don't cook with fresh herbs... I have thought about growing some to try though.

Oh, and I got a bunch of spices as a wedding gift! They were the best presents I got. One person got me a bunch of the baking spices and another got me Penzy's spices. I love the pasta blend that penzey's has.
