Hi! I was just wondering if anybody lived at Ft. Leavenworth. My husband is in the USMC and we are stationed at Richards Gebauer....about 1 hour away. I used to drive out to Leavenworth once a month to go grocery shopping, but when gas prices started to rise, I quit. Now, with grocery prices on the rise, I'm wondering if I should start driving back out there. Any suggestions? Any examples of how much you are spending? Have their prices gone up?

Some things have gone up at my commissary, rice and flour are the 2 biggies, but everything else has stayed the same. I don't know about your commissary, I do have some friends stationed there (army) so I can ask them about the prices.

In my experience I can get better sale prices if the stores double coupons, otherwise the commissary prices beat out anything else, even Aldi's. If you think it would be worth it maybe you could do a big once a month shopping trip and then shop locally for fillers.

Recipes

Chicken Club Wrap ~ courtesy of AllRecipes.com

INGREDIENTS
4 (10 inch) Mission® Multigrain Flour Wraps ~ use IP coupons
4 tablespoons low fat or light mayonnaise
1 cup iceberg lettuce, shredded, prepared
1 large garden tomato, thinly sliced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
1/4 cup carrots shredded
4 strips bacon fully cooked, microwave to crispy
1 cup grilled chicken strips pre-cooked, ~ use Pilgrim's Pride coupons
DIRECTIONS
Evenly spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise over each wrap, covering each wrap in a thin layer.
To build 1 wrap: Place 1/4 cup lettuce on the center of the wrap. Top lettuce with 2 slices of tomato, slightly overlapping each other. Top tomatoes with 2 thin onion rings. Top onions with 1 tablespoon carrots. Top carrots with 1 strip of bacon. Top bacon with 1/4 cup of chicken to complete the wrap.
Fold in the left and right sides of the wrap towards the center, leaving a gap in the center.
Using both hands, roll the bottom edge of the tortilla (facing you) from the bottom to the top into a burrito shape.
Slice the wrap in half, on a slight bias (angle) and serve.
Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each of the other 3 wraps and enjoy.

Hints

Try Mission® Jalapeno or other varieties of wraps.

Using freshly cooked peppered bacon versus fully cooked bacon; adds great flavor and texture to the wrap recipe.

Rotisserie chicken (pull chunks of dark and white meat) could be substituted for the grilled chicken strips; for ease of execution.

Use Vidalia onions (when in season) for a sweeter onion flavor profile.

Remove the carrots for a more traditional flavored club.

Substitute spring lettuce mix for the iceberg lettuce for a high flavor, nutritious and colorful wrap.

Tomato Salad ~ from Country Living

Ingredients
1/4 c. white vinegar
1 tsp finely chopped green chili
3/4 tsp salt
1 cup thinly sliced onion
4 large ripe tomatoes, cut into thin wedges
Directions
Combine vinegar, green chili, and salt in medium bowl. Toss with onion and set aside fore 5 minutes to allow flavors to blend. Add tomatoes and combine thoroughly. Set aside for 15 minutes before serving.

Blueberry Cobler ~ from Allrecipes.com

INGREDIENTS
3 cups fresh blueberries
1/2 lemon

1 1/8 cups white sugar
4 1/2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup whole milk

1 1/2 cups white sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 pinch ground cinnamon
3/4 cup boiling water
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 11x7 inch baking dish.
Spread the blueberries out to cover the entire bottom of the baking dish. Squeeze the juice from the lemon over them. In a medium bowl, stir together the butter and 1 1/8 cups sugar until smooth. Stir in flour and baking powder alternately with the milk until smooth. Batter will be thin. Spoon over the berries, and spread evenly.
In a small bowl, stir together 1 1/2 cups of sugar, salt, and cornstarch. Sprinkle over the top of the batter. Dust with a pinch of cinnamon, then pour the boiling water over the entire dish.
Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.
