My sister was complaining about one of her roommates - when she suggested making chicken pot pie out of leftovers, he went and bought all new ingredients, took forever cooking, and they didn't eat until midnight. She also said he recently spent an hour making pancake batter!

I like to make a fancy meal once in a while, but for every night dinner, I prefer fast and quick. What about you?

I believe eating well doesn't even require a production.

I agree that sometimes I will make something fancier that req a few more steps than normal........but if it takes ya AN HOUR to make pancake better...you're doing something wrong

I agree! I make everything from scratch, and there are very few things that take me an hour to prepare (not counting cooking time), and pancake batter is definitely NOT one of them! There is absolutely nothing wrong with using leftovers, sometimes it seems like we eat more leftovers than anything else!!! I hope the poor guy gets faster with practice!

I love quick, healthy, and easy meals. I also like variety, so I tend to stock up on ingredients so that I never have to "run to the store" for something.

But, when I was single and living alone, if I wanted to cook for bf (now dh) or friends, I also usually had to buy all the ingredients. And, because I was an inexperienced cook, things did take longer to make. Plus, I only had maybe one cookbook, so the way we can pick and choose recipes that suit our needs nowadays, with the internet, is a certainly a time saver I could have used back then.

I'd be curious to see the pancake recipe that took an hour to make . . .

In no way is cooking a production at our house. Quick, easy, simple food is best for us. Yes there may be prep and a dish may take time to cook, but for me it just flows. I think nothing of whipping up a quick dinner for friends or baking some quick bread or cookies for a neighbor down the street.

I like quick and simple unless I am in the mood to do something fancy.

This is how my dad cooks. When I lived at home we didn't eat dinner until 9 or 10 every night!!

I don't really cook anything that takes more than 1 hour, start to finish!

Ok, let me just say if I had a roomate that took an Hour to mix up pancake batter, I would have already hit the drive-through somewhere!!
No, cooking is not a production here, I cook whatever we have on hand, I cook alot of things from scratch, but since I have been doing it for awhile, most meals don't take me longer than 30 minutes.
