Witches Fingers

Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup icing sugar (powdered sugar)
1 egg
1 tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup whole blanched almonds
1 tube red decorator gel (or red jam for dipping)

Instructions
In bowl beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla; beat in flour; baking powder and salt. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Working with one-quarter of the dough at a time and keeping remaining dough refrigerated, roll heaping teaspoons full of dough into finger shape for each cookie. Press almond firmly into one end for nail. Squeeze in center to create knuckle shape. Using a paring knife make slashes in several places to form knuckle.

Place on lightly greased cookie sheet in 325 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until pale or golden. Let cool for three minutes. Lift up almond; squeeze red decorator gel onto nail bed and press almond back in place so gel oozes out from underneath or dip almond in jam and press onto "finger", jam will ooze out very effectively. Remove from cookie sheet and let cool.

Repeat with remaining dough. Makes about 5 dozen fingers!

Ghost Suckers

Take a round-headed lollipop. Lay the head in the center of a white handkerchief (disposable tissue or cloth depending on how expensive you want it). Fold and gather the handkerchief down around the stick and tie just below the head with a thread/ribbon/rubber band. Add 2 black dots for eyes. Voila - a ghost.
These make good party favors.

I made these owls this week. I got the idea from a $1 Halloween recipie book at Target. I have to keep carbs down to 15g at snack time. So they can have one of these yummy owls to meet the 15carbs.
I bought generic Target refridgerated croissants and sliced them like cookies. Put two together and take a small strip off each one for the ears and put them in between. Sprinkle cinn./sugar on them and bake according to directions. Place eyes and mouth on when done. Directions call for choc. stars for eyes and one pretzel goldfish for mouth, but you can see I used something else. I used choc./rasp. chips for eyes and candy corn for mouth.
They were super yummy and everyone loved them! Super cute too!!

I made these just yesterday. (I'm allowed two sugar treats per week.)
They're just mini powdered donuts, with Lifesaver gummies in middle, and mini m/m in the middle of that. Kids love them!

Daycare mom, you always have the cutest holiday treats! Thanks for the great ideas with pictures. Those owls are great and the eyeballs couldn't be easier but will be a huge hit with my boys.

I saw a good one the other day but now I can't find the link. They made "bones" out of pretzel rods broken in half with marshmallows stuck on each end. They snipped the marshmallow in the middle to make it spread out a little. Then the whole thing was dipped in chocolate, some in white and some in milk chocolate, and they were displayed in a pile on a plate. They looked very realistic and sounded simple. I'm going to try them this weekend.

Thanks Maggie! I always try to make it easy, yet still fun!
That pretzel one sounds cool and yummy!

Today I made witches brooms with pretzel rods, string cheese, and licorice string. I cut the string cheese in halves and pulled them apart, and took about 2 thin strings of the licorice to wrap around the cheese to put on the pretzel. Yummy and healthy!
---
Here's a few without pictures that I have also made in the past.
*Ghost Biscuits-Stretch out biscuits like ghosts and bake them. When done add two choc. chips for eyes and one for a mouth.
*Ghosts on a broom-just take a large marshmallow and put it through a pretzel rod.
*Ghost cookies-melt some white chocolate and coat Nutter Butter cookies with it. Then add some mini chocolate chips on for eyes and a mouth.

I'll post more as I do them and remember them.
In the mean time, enjoy!
