eat something you never thought they would touch? I made asparagus last night. I hardly ever make it because honestly I don't like it that much, but my dh loves it. I bought some the other day and kept putting off cooking it, but I had to use it before I ended up throwing it away. I steamed it and put a little salt on it and put it on everyone's plates. That was it - no butter or lemon or anything - and I told the boys (4 and 9) they had to try it while they scrunched up their little faces. Well lo and behold they both liked it and gobbled it all up!
I was shocked and amazed. And I guess I had better start getting used to it myself because now I am going to have to make it for the three of them more often!

My youngest grand daughter (11) loves onions and tomatoes.
The other day, she was over and we were making us a salad for lunch. I asked her to wash the tomatoes and onions. I turn around and she was eating a whole onion and tomato!

Yes. One of my sons could eat his body weight in pickles and has loved them since he was starting finger foods. He's 7 now and loves sauerkraut.
My dd, and 2 other sons love tomatoes and creamed spinach. I had to start doubling the amount I'd make for dinner because often there wasn't enough for them to have as much as they wanted.

A few weeks ago, M'ija and Irish came over so that Irish could fix Himself's car. I had made a pot roast and okra smothered in tomatoes.
M'ija scooped about half the pot of okra and tomatoes onto her plate. I asked her when she started eating that, and she said, "I've always loved okra any way it's fixed." As I recall, when she was a child, she would eat her own weight in FRIED okra, but wouldn't touch it foxed any other way.
Guess who's getting a jar of okra pickles in her stocking this year.

my girls love asparagus as well!
to be honest, we eat a wide variety of foods so it doesn't really suprise me that they like stuff that other kids don't.
What suprises me is what they won't eat.... kraft mac and cheese, french fries, chicken nuggets. LOL

My kids are good eaters and they do like just about all fruits and a respectable amount of veggies, but I just never thought to give them asparagus since I don't really care for it. They never like anything with sauce on it - no casseroles at all - but they will eat almost any veggie if it is in a soup. I am definitely guilty of only cooking foods that I like. They never have to eat brussel sprouts or broccoli or beets because YUCK I can't stand those veggies! But they will eat all kinds of salads and beans and squash and stuff like that because I love them and have been serving them their whole lives.
Maybe we need to have a surprise veggie night once a week and all of us have to try it!

My 3 yr old will eat all types of fruit and lots of different vegetables, his favorite food is salad - lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olives but he will not touch anything with chicken in it.

For a while there my youngest loved sardines in tomato sauce, but she hasn't eaten it in several months. My 14 year old loves it too. In fact, she hogs it.
My youngest has always loved tomatoes, and will eat them whole.

They like most fruits and vegetables but I was surprised by how much they love Edamame, which they call Jumping Beans. They think it's a treat!
