I left an 8 oz. block of cream cheese out all night. (about 12 hrs.) Do I need to throw it out? Does it go "bad"?

I've always been told that cream cheese at room temp is only good for about 4 hours.

I'd also use it. But, my house stays pretty cool overnight.

I got sick one time from cream cheese that went bad. I bought it at the store (summertime) and then walked home. I was outside for 30-45min walking. In that short of a time, the cream cheese went bad (of course, it was summer, so it was probably hot). This happened years and years ago and I still remember how sick I got. I would say that it isn't worth getting food poisoning over a block of cream cheese and would throw it out.

LOL , I think I might too!

I haven't done it with cream cheese , but a couple times I have left American cheese in the bag on the counter all night ( When I thought I got all the cold stuff put away you know?)
It would be out for about 10 hours , and I just put it in the fridge. - Nothing has ever happened to us!
Oh I have done this with parm cheese too!

But I thought that in the older days , the delis always had the cheeses un- refrigerated?
I can remember the deli near my grandmoms in the very early 80's never had the cheeses refrigerated during the day , and hoagie making hours.

If I was going to bake something with it I'd use it. I would smell it and be sure it didn't smell bad at least. If I was going to eat it as is or in something cold (not baked/cooked), I'd prob throw it out.

What was the temp in your house during that time...? I'd probably use it! I have a few recipes where I leave the butter and cream cheese out all night...been making them for years, no issues.
