I am sure that I am eating them wrong since I am truly a northerner.... and really before this pregnancy I never ate them.

So I make em, put a load of butter on and mix jam in it.

I am thinking lots of salt and bacon would be good too!

We eat them especially in the winter. We make them with butter and salt. And yes bacon is good with them, and sausage too.

What kind of jam do you put in them?

I hate grits, but they were big sellers for breakfast when I had the cafe.

1 c. uncooked grits
6 tbsp. butter
8 oz. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
2 eggs, well beaten

Cook grits according to package. Add butter, cheese and eggs to cooked grits. Mix well and pour into buttered 1 1/2 quart casserole. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes

CHEESE AND GRITS

1 c. instant grits
3 c. water
1 tsp. salt

Stir grits into boiling water and cook 5 minutes, stirring all the time.
Add:

1/2 stick butter
1/2 lb. grated cheese (save some for the top)
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. milk

Pour into greased casserole, top with cheese and seasoned bread crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Serves 8.

I get the instant kind. I know this may sound weird but I like them with sugar or honey. It is actually pretty good.

I'm a southerner born and raised, and have never heard of putting any kind of sweetener in grits. I do like jam, honey, or cane syrup in my oatmeal, though.

Grits are one of my favorite comfort foods and I eat them several ways:
with butter, salt, and pepper
with extra sharp cheddar
with cheddar and crumbled bacon
with an egg fried over easy placed on top and then cut into them

I like the old-fashioned grits that have to actually be cooked - instant just doesn't taste right to me.

I haven't ever heard of it either. Most people here put tomatoes, bacon or cheese in them. I like mine with butter, salt and pepper. Sometimes I will put cheese in them, but not very often. I prefer my bacon on the side. It's good with it in the grits, but I like the crunch of my bacon separate.
