Would you cook beets like you would cook potatoes? I mean, would you boil them just like when you're boiling potatoes? Use the fork test and everything?

I steam mine for about 45 minutes I dont boil....you also wanna leave stem and roots and such on just wash/scrub them...them let cook slightly and skin will peel right off...you can also roast them which is my favorite.

opps sorry.........

To roast beets:

preheat the oven to 350

Rub the scrubbed beets with olive oil sprinkle with s and p, place them in a roasting pan with a few Tbs water.

Cover with foil and roast until they can easily be poked with a knife.

A couple of pounds usually takes about an hour.

I only like my beets pickled. But, my mom slices them, then boils in a little water til tender and slathers them full of butter.
