Got a tip for the grill,of any kind, let's share!!!

Since it's start of the season...here's my favorite grill cleaning tip....

I put my grates in a large lawn bag....hose em down with oven cleaner..tie off bag and let bake in the sun a few hours...................everything wipes right off!!!(This is also a super if ya find a great cast iron skillet at a garage sale that just needs some scrubbing )

as far as cooking...veggies...I'm a BIG FAN of making the foil packs...you can do anything........for fast quick and easy here's a few quick combos I do:

can green beans(drained with exception of small slash of liquid)-1-2 slices of bacon, salt and pepper)Toss around on grill 5-10 minutes(indirect heat)..discard bacon and voila.

same thing with bags of baby carrots(our families favorite)1 lb bag babies...2 Tbs(eyeball it)butter,2 chicken bouillon cubes and 3 tsp or so of parsley.Toss around 10-15 minutes(GOOD STUFF)

even a can of corn for the kids if they like fried corn....drain corn-1 Tbs butter ,salt and pepper.....3-5 minutes and good to go!!!

even squash...teeny bit of water to steam...dab of butter and some Mrs Dash.Good to go.

Ok..your turn................................

Put Olive Oil on a paper towel and wipe your grill grates to help prevent sticking.

- A favorite grill recipe we do is slice up potatoes, thin. add some onion, a little butter, what ever seasonings you would like. I use whatever I feel like that day, garlic salt, Mrs. Dass, pepper, celery salt. Just what ever you would like. Wrap in foil and grill about 20- 30 minutes. (10-15 min each side) or until potatoes are done. I also spray foil with Pam.

I also was going to mention Pam, but I use that to spray the grill and cooking utensils with before using. (Although, I like the idea of using olive oil. Maybe I'll try that in a spray bottle next time...) I sometimes use foil bags (if I have foil)...makes for easy clean up, and contains all the juices, etc.

We've also got into the habit of using a "coal starter" (bought at Walmart YEARS AGO, think it was about $5). Looks like a flour sifter (but a bit larger) with a handle on the outside...you poke newspaper into the bottom, and then fill it up with coal. There are holes on the sides from which to light the newspaper, which starts the coals, avoiding having to use lighter fluid which transfers the taste to your food. Very easy (and safer, if you ask me) and once the coals get hot enough, you just dump them into bottom of grill, spread them around, and you're all set!!
