DH will not eat canned veggies - unless it is corn. We buy almost all frozen veggies. We used to do them in the microwave (also in our Pampered Chef micro steamer); however, when we moved and put in our new micro, there's too much on that circuit and everytime we try using it for anything over than reheating a beverage we blow the fuse. So, we've been them stove top - either package instructions or in our low pressure pressure cooker.

I hate the taste of most canned veggies - my single exception is tomatoes. And I always have a stock of frozen veggies in my freezer: peas, corn, green beans, brussel sprouts, spinach and carrots, plus others. Frozen veggies are a great substitute for fresh and save me from running into town for last minute impulse baking sessions (like quiche).

If I add them to a stew or soup, I don't normally bother to defrost them first. But if I need to cook them first, I'll normally just pop them into a microwaveable dish (my 4 cup Pyrex is the best) and cover with plastic wrap or a plate (allow at least a small vent hole). The ice from the veggies is sufficient water for them to steam in the microwave.

I buy both canned and frozen and fresh. There are certain ones I will only eat fresh ( carrots, asperagus, .. and then frozen and only one veggie that I will eat canned just beacuse I hate it frozen ( green beans) So that one is only canned or fresh. I think it is a preferance to everyone. I also only microwave my frozen ones. Fresh I steam on the stove top. Sometimes I will put baby carrots in a bowl of water in the microwave for dd.

I have to agree with Lexikatiesmom about the Birdseye Steamfresh frozen veggies. They taste delicious! My family can really scarf down the veggies when I microwave a bag. I've been lucky and stocked my freezer full with all different varieties for .30-.40 per bag (cheaper than canned veggies). Publix and Ingles have them on sale buy one get one free quite often. Kroger has had them as part of the 10 for $10 sale. There are usually coupons for $1 off 2 bags available to use with the sales.
