Just wondering if any of you serve them? I did for the first time yesterday, and spiced it up and added a layer of cheese on top. We had no groceries and MIL gave me the box. the kids and dh loved it, I was surprised. Does anyone use them reguarly? what are your faves? I feel like I have discovered a hidden treasure

Nope...I had hamburger helper at a friends house when I was in high school and it was terrible. L.OL! I would never buy it...but everyone is different! I don't even make casseroles, it just not something that appeals to me.

We like the cheeseburger macaroni. I will cook them once in a blue moon. They are so unhealthy. BUt they help out when you need a quick filling dinner. Serve it up with a side salad and you got a meal.I think you can make them yourself though if you are trying to be more frugal, and health concience.

Yep, cheeseburger macaroni is a regular on our menu! It is cheaper (I buy store brand) than buying all the ingredients to make it from scratch!

I comb sales w/coupons so I usually have a stock of these...I use them more in the fall/winter though...I make these and the lipton bags for dd lunch...or if I have my brother and his 2 kids over...they are universally friendly for kids it seems...although I do add to them alot.

I make my own cheeseburger helper:
1lb hamburger
chopped onion (opt)
Garlice powder
1 can cream chicken soup (I make mine homemade, much much cheaper)
1 C macaroni
2C water
1 C Cheese

Brown your hamburger w/ onions, I drain and rinse mine to reduce that fat content,
add garlic powder and any other seasonings you like and water and soup, bring to boil. Add macaroni simmer about 10 minutes or until tender. Stir often, you might need to add a little more water. Add cheese, I remove if from the heat and let the cheese melt and the sauce thicken. My kids have never noticed the difference.

I've had them maybe 3 times in my life. My father would revolt if my mom served them, so I guess a negative attitude towards them was instilled in me. DH is a chef by trade and would laugh at me if I served hamburger helper, but I do make my own homemade casseroles that are better than anything out of a box.

I don't really cook anything with hamburger except hamburgers or meatloaf or occasionally spaghetti. So I don't use hamburger helper, but we DO use the chicken helper or tuna helper occasionally. The oriental rice chicken helper is actually pretty good, and some of the tuna ones can be made into cold salads.

YUCK! No way! My roommate in college made it once and it was disgusting! I will eat most anything (obviously), but not that! EWWW!

I tried the Tuna one later hoping it would be better, but had the same reaction!

Plus, they are so high in sodium!!!

dh and the kids like only the beef noodle hamburger helper(they eat this if moms gonna be gone) i can't stand them...they do however prefer homemade beef and noodles so most of the time we do that but i do keep a couple boxes on hand when i can get them with coupons and they are on sale for .99 a box...
