I have a bunch of cans of refried beans (commoditites), that are very, very bland. Any ideas on how to use them up? I've tried adding salsa, spices, etc to them to use w/ as a side with mexican food, but they still taste yucky. I hate to throw them out, any ideas??

You could make bean and cheese tacos. Just warm up the beans and place cheese inside a tortilla. Then you can dip it in guacomole, sour cream or hot sauce. You might want to make some pico de gallo to put inside the taco. That will really liven up the flavor.

Well... out here in SoCal most Mexican restaurants add bacon grease to flavor their refried beans. I used to do that also before I lost 40lbs... lol Also not very heart healthy but delicious!!

Mix em with a can or two of spicy chili beans and some salsa, then layer that mixture between tortillas along with shredded cheese, cheddar or something along that line, like you would layer a lasagna. Top with more salsa, cheese, and sliced olives and bake 350 for about 25 minutes. It's good, I swear !

I'd try to use them in recipes instead of as a side dish. I personally don't like them that way.

Ok Rose, I'm liking u more and more. This is what I would suggest. If possible use bits and ends so u aren't wasting the good bacon. Cilantro would be good in there also. I prefer fresh.

lol

I used to save my bacon grease from when I cooked bacon for breakfast (those days are long gone =( *sigh* ). Never any waste that way... unless you count the years I probably took off my life from clogged arteries..

I think they always taste bland no matter what kind you buy. Here are two idea's I like to use them in-

do individual servings and add some enchilada sauce and melt some cheddar cheese on top.I think you could do it in a skillet in one batch and it would work fine too.

Anothe thing I like to do is add a can of them to chili, taco soup or any kind of bean soup to help thicken it and make the batch stretch longer.

I just add salsa and chili powder and spread them on a flour tortilla w/ cheese. I really like them best when I fold them so they end up like a triangle and then put them in the oven so that they are a bit crunchy. yummy.
