Maybe you know...maybe ya don't but I am homeschooling dd.....but when ds were younger they usually bought....but mainly because they were given a hard time for taking a lunch.( )

Around here I hardly ever hear people talking about packing their lunches?!?!!?

So I was just curious

Last year they bought more than packed, but this year they will be packing exclusively. I was watching a program about the school lunches and how they buy the lowest quality foods, most prepackaged stuff in order to keep costs down. I buy mostly organic foods, nothing with dyes, preservatives or corn syrup and yet, last year I allowed my kids to eat 1/3 of their daily meals there. What was I thinking!

*small rant: At our school the kids can buy cheetos, doritos or chips, but apples or fruits are not available unless they happen to be the daily dessert.

When my kids buy lunch they are starving before they get home from school. They would rather pack lunch than only eat part of a lunch they do not like.

I need more options:

9th grade dd always buys her lunch
4th grade ds will buy lunch maybe once a week, and pack the rest.
3rd grade ds always packs his lunch
2nd grade ds will buy lunch maybe once a week and pack the rest.

Pack everyday except Wednesday, since its pizza day. I pack because I can pack a much healthier lunch than the school offers. Example: canned green beans, jello, hot dogs and canned peaches. Hardly anything fresh, nonprocessed.

I voted 'packed' because that's what I HOPE DD will be doing most of the time. However, she will also buy lunch on some days.

We usually packed. I like that kids who bring their lunch sit down right away, so that's more time to eat. And the cafeteria food was very unhealthy. DD would usually buy once a week, like pizza day. But I'll admit that towards the end of the year, I got more and more lazy about packing her lunch.

I just bought Laptop Lunches and I'm reading several bento box sites for ideas and recipes to keep their lunches interesting and healthy.
