I have a chicken that I defrosted and was going to bake, but it has turned really hot again so I was wondering if I can put the whole thing in the crockpot? If I do, what do I have to do to it? Does it have to be covered in liquid. I am a total crock pot idiot, so HELP!!!

I always put whole chicken in the crockpot. I don't add any liquid, I just stick it in the crockpot, season it with garlic powder, seasoned salt,...whatever you like...then stuff it with quartered lemons, onion, and celery, and different herbs out of the garden. I even add lemon slices, onion and butter under the skin on the breast. I cook it on low for several hours, say 7 hours or so, then when it is done, it falls off the bone. The only thing is, it doesn't get brown and crispy like it does in the oven. But, that doesn't bother me any. It is really good in the crock pot, so good luck!

I just did one last week and did it about the same way. I did add some liquid to mine....1/2 cup white wine, cause we had an open bottle in the fridge. I put 1/2 an onion, a stalk of celery and some carrots inside of mine. Then seasoned with seasoning salt, garlic powder and some dried basil.

I will cover mine with stock or seasoned water and cook on low over night. I will then turn it off and take off the lid so it cools a little. I then pour all of it through a strainer and let it sit in the sink and cool for about 30 minutes. I can then pull all of the meat off of the bone and use it in just about anything.

I put the whole chicken in the crockpot too. I just slather it with butter and salt, and set it on low. By the end of the day, the meat falls right off the bone when you touch it, and it is sooooo tasty! I can use the meat for several meals. I think the broth idea for gravy is cool. I've never done that. Just add whatever you want to it. Make sure to leave the lid on the entire time. I've read that with crockpot recipes, that for everytime you open that lid, you should add 25 minutes to the cooking time. Good luck!

I put a whole chicken in the crockpot too- no broth or seasoning- and when it's done, I put it under the broiler for a few minutes to crisp the skin.
