I have an abundance of garden tomatoes and can't use them quick enough. I have given some to my family, but still I have so many! I hear that I can blend them up somehow and freeze them for tomato sauce later on. Has anyone ever done this, and how do you do it to make a delicious sauce for freezing?

What I have heard is that you can also freeze them whole if you choose (from my neighbor - I followed her directions)...

I blanched them, skined them, and then threw 3 to a bag in my freezer. Then when I am ready for sauce I will take them out and blend them (I don't mind the seeds.). If you mind the seeds you are best to cut them open and remove all seeds prior to freezing.

That's all I know....it's my first year doing it too so I will have to wait to see how they turn out.

You can just throw the tomatos in a freezer bag whole with the skins on. When they thaw the skins slip right off. Then just make them into whatever you want.

Thanks to all of you! By the way, I also have LOADS of cherry tomatoes! I feed them to my son and his friends as snacks all day long. I'm surprised they haven't turned into one!
