I have seen the recipe for making it yourself all over the place, but I'm wondering... is it exactly the same? I mean, on the box of Bisquick there are all kinds of recipes for dumplings and pancakes and shortcakes and such... can you still use those recipes with exactly the same measure of homemade-baking-mix?

I use to make my own, then I found out that it was actually cheaper to buy it at sams than to make it...BUT the recipe I used I wasn't happy with, because my biscuts and baking with it didn't work as well with the "rising" I have a PERFECT dumpling recipe that is a MILLION times better than the bisquick, it's EASY as ever and the dumplings stay together really well (and they even freeze well!!!), compared to the bisquick ones...I'll post the dumplings recipe tomorrow some time.

I have a recipe that I use for pancakes, and it's perfect (It is not exactly the same taste as Bisquick, as dh won't eat bisquick), but it's great! However, saying that, i've never used it to make biscuits or dumplings, but I'm thinking if you just don't put quite as much water as you would for pancakes, that it would work well....give it a shot, if it sucks, you are only out some flour and such. If it works, well then, there ya go!
