DD's school is having their fall festival this week. I have been asked to make a few cakes. Anyone have any "pretty" cakes recipes?

Well...its fall themed so I would do the classic bundt cake w/orange iciing and ice cream cone frosted brown(CUTE )

I would probably also do an apple bundt cake and make a glaze and drizzle...add a little extra cinnamon to your drizzle for the "brown flakes"in the white glade...pretty .

How many do you have to make???

Our school doesn't allow homemade cakes. They have to be store-bought for safety reasons (this is not a low income area). Kind of takes some of the spirit out of it.

I found these on Kraft's website. They look really pretty and cool. Check out the website for pictures!

Survivor Birthday Party Poke Cake-you wouldnt have to go with this theme, just the genereal idea.
2 baked 9-inch round white cake layers, cooled
2 cups boiling water
2 pkg. (4-serving size each) JELL-O Brand Cherry Flavor Gelatin
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed
1/3 cup OREO Chocolate Cookie Crumbs
1-1/2 cups assorted bug- or worm-shaped chewy fruit snacks

PLACE cake layers, top sides up, in 2 clean 9-inch round cake pans. Pierce layers with large fork at 1/2-inch intervals.
STIR boiling water into dry gelatin mix in small bowl at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Pour half the gelatin over each cake layer in pan. Refrigerate 3 hours or overnight.
DIP 1 cake pan in warm water 10 seconds; unmold onto serving plate. Spread with about 1 cup of the whipped topping. Unmold second cake layer; carefully place on first cake layer. Frost top and side of cake with remaining whipped topping. Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
DECORATE top of cake with cookie crumbs and fruit snacks. Use small birthday cake sparklers for candles on the cake to represent "torches".

JELL-O Poke Cake

Take 2 cups boiling water, 1 tub (8 oz.) Cool Whip Whipped Topping, thawed, and mix & match your recipe from these options...

cake layer options Jell-O Brand Gelatin choices
white cake Strawberry
yellow cake Berry Blue
spice cake Orange
chocolate cake Cherry

Then follow our 3 simple steps:

PLACE 2 baked 9-inch round cake layers, top side up, each in clean 9-inch round cake pan. Pierce cakes with large fork at 1/2-inch intervals.
STIR boiling water into 2 pkg. (4-serving size each) Jell-O Brand Gelatin in medium bowl at least 2 min. until completely dissolved. Carefully pour gelatin evenly over cake layers. Refrigerate 3 hours.
DIP one of the cake pans in warm water 10 sec.; unmold onto serving plate. Spread with about 1 cup of the whipped topping. Unmold second cake layer; carefully place on first cake layer. Frost top and side of cake with remaining whipped topping. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or until ready to serve. Decorate as desired. Store leftover cake in refrigerator.

Hidden Treasure Cake

Take 1 prepared (10 oz.) angel food cake, 1/2 cup boiling water, 1-1/2 cups thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping and mix & match your recipe from these options...

CLICK TO ENLARGE Jell-O Brand Gelatin options fruit choices
Strawberry 1 cup chopped strawberries, divided
Orange 1 can (11 oz.) mandarin orange segments, drained, divided
Lemon 1 cup blueberries, divided
Lime 1 cup raspberries, divided

Then follow our 3 simple steps:

PLACE cake on serving plate. Cut 3/4-inch-thick horizontal slice from top of cake using a serrated knife; set aside. With small knife, cut 1-inch wide and 1-inch deep tunnel inside center of cake; being careful not to cut through. Remove and save cutout for snack.
STIR boiling water into 1 pkg. (4-serving size) dry Jell-O Brand Gelatin in bowl 2 min. until dissolved. Add enough cold water to 1/2 cup ice to measure 3/4 cup; stir into gelatin until completely melted. Remove 1/2 cup of the gelatin mixture and place in separate medium bowl. Add whipped topping; stir with wire whisk until well blended. Refrigerate 10 to 15 min. or until thick enough to spread.
MEANWHILE, refrigerate remaining plain gelatin 5 to 10 min. or until thickened. Stir in 3/4 cup of the fruit; spoon into tunnel of cake. Replace top of cake. Frost cake with reserved thickened whipped topping and gelatin mixture. Garnish top with remaining fruit.

I always make the barbie cake for these things..

Dollar store or cheap barbie..

Use your pyrex bowl or 4 up measuring cup, bake until done, cool, invert, frost w/pink push barbie gently down in the center, then frost her chest and belly to look like a formal dress.

At our school's cake walk last year, the first cakes to go were two with a school theme to them. Our mascot is a dragon, so she just frosted them with white icing and made a dragon on them with the school name in icing. I felt kind of bad for the people who made the cakes that obviously took a long time to decorate (we had an underwater scene and a castle), but the kids were really into school spirit that day apparently. Personally, I always make a bundt cake, frost it and cover it with M&Ms (color depending on the season) - the kids see all that candy and go nuts.

I have some cake decorating books at home that I like to use. However, I suggest going to amazon.com and searching on cake decorating under books. The pictures alone at that site may be enough to give you a few ideas. For instance, I saw one 'cactus flower' cake that looked super-easy and very cute.

I'm also forever getting ideas from Family Fun magazine - and their website.

I just did three cakes (2 of them for DH's work gathering tomorrow). I made 2 really good apple bundt cakes with a powdered sugar/water glaze drizzled over the top of it and i made a carrot bundt with the same glazed topping. The apple cakes are always a HUGE hit this time of year.
