I hate admitting this but I don't cook as well when my husband isn't home. He has a lot of business dinners and I often find myself making noodles or something for me and my daughter when my husband isn't here. Which isn't fair to me or my daughter but I just find myself doing it.

Does anyone else do this?

I do that too. But I also make meals that my DH hates and the kids and I love. So we (well mostly the kids) will eat kraft mac and cheese with hot dogs, frozen pizzas, etc. And than on the extreme I will bake cornish hens and rice, meatloaf or goulash. So some times we eat good and other times we eat lousy.
Just depends on my mood.

It depends on who else is going to be gone. It also depends on my mood and if I feel like cooking.

Actually, I guess it is no different than every other day

I've always wondered about this because back in my single days, dinner was usually a very light meal. For instance, I might have just heated up some broccoli or a baked potato. Or maybe I'd eat a bowl of rice with a little butter. One of my favorite meals for dinner is a bowl of cold cereal with a little milk and a sliced banana. Lunch is always the big meal.

The weird thing is hubby doesn't always like a big dinner either, yet when he is home I feel compelled to cook a real three-course meal for him and the family. Why is that?

I'd probably be skinnier and healthier if we all lightened up for dinner.

I still cook 'real' food...we don't eat processed foods. I like to cook, prepare as much as I can in the morning (chop up veggies, start meat marinating etc) - so it's not really all that time consuming.
