(or rather I think I just need confirmation of something I know but don't want to be true.)

I have a pork loin roast that I bought "use or freeze by" date is 10-28, however when I opened it up today to slice it to freeze, it's got a slight odor to it and seemed slightly more slimey than the other I cut up.

It's bad isn't it ????

Oh boy that is a hard one!I wanna say quick throw it in the crockpot and shred it and dice it later!

I am saying it is hard because the slime you can wash away but the odor sometimes I get confused because meat will normally have a slight odor and I get confused of how much is to much ya know?I get scared at this point.

I know someone will let you know what to do.

I just hate the thought of throwing out $13 ~ but would hate it worse if we all got sick. I currently have them cut and in the freezer (marked special so I can throw them out if need be) but maybe I should cook them up???

UGH - I hate this and am kicking myself that I didn't get it cut up sooner

Did you wash the slime off before freezing them?Maybe it was just the slime that had the smell to it?

When did you buy it? Sometimes I will buy meat that isn't supposed to expire for at least a week, but if I didn't have it in the coldest part of the refrigerator it goes bad before the expiration date.
Don't you wish there were some gadget they sold that you could stick in the meat and it would tell you if it was bad? I guess if it stinks, throw it out.
And it wasn't the stupidest question ever. I have asked plenty of stupider questions!

I pretty much think ALL meat stinks, and almost always have hubby come smell *and it's not even 'questionable dates ,, just meat smell* To me, it always smells a little yukky.... but honestly, when it's bad, it smells REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL bad! lol

In our house, I've found, that if I 'wonder', it's fine,, if it's bad, EVERYONE knows as soon as it's opened.... or begins to cook. If you start to cook it and it's bad, it'll STINK UP THE HOUSE! You'll know super quick.

My personal experience opinion*

I just did this today, and I'm SO mad at myself. I bought 5 lbs of hamburger last week, well 5 days ago. I bought it with the intention of portioning it out and freezing it. Well I opened it tonight to make hamburgers and it smelled horrible!! I was so mad at myself first for not freezing it right away ( I was tired from shopping, so I threw it in the fridge, then ever had time for it) then I was thinking, I can't believe it went bad in less than 5 days! It musta been old meat!
