Which recipes could you not do the holidays without? What are your favorite holiday classics?

Anything pumpkin--pies, cakes, bread, roll, cookies, soup...anything! And we always have carrot cake at Thanksgiving, too. At Christmas we always have the same cheeseballs my aunt makes, pecan pie, my Gramma's homemade butterscotch pie, and buckeyes. Of course the usual turkey at Thanksgiving and ham at Christmas. And at Christmas dh's Gramma always makes ham loaf and this crazy jello salad w/ cherries & walnuts, though I don't like either one, their entire family is crazy about both and that's the only time she makes them all year! Then we end the year/begin the new year with pork and our homemade sauerkraut--good stuff!

I agree...that's a loaded question...the first day that feels like FALL...I make pumpkin bread for everyone.
Pretty quickly after that comes an apple pie.
I like all the breakfasts casseroles that get made for holiday mornings...and the smell of the homemade breads and rolls baking.
I guess for me holidays is about the smell of the homemade stuff baking..breads-pies-stuffing being made(oohh the smell of the onion and celery YUM)
Homemade hot chocolate is also a big holiday thing for me as well.

Yes! Love that!
My Dad is Sicilian and he used to make us affogato during the winter months. It's vanilla ice cream with espresso (he mostly used hot coffee) poured over it and it's YUM. Sometimes my Mom would make her homemade caramel sauce and we'd have a little of that one it too...ahhh...memories!

Some of our family favorites for Thanksgiving are oyster dressing baked in the turkey, oyster casserole, sweet potato casserole, pistacchio pudding, pumpkin pie, pecan pie and green bean casserole. Christmas brings even more favorites that include divinity, fudge, peanut brittle, cut out sugar cookies, homemade turtles, rock candy, and more! We spend the month betweeen Thanksgiving and Christmas doing "home ec" (and Christmas crafts, etc.) for our home school. I look forward to that time with the kids every year!
