Does anyone know how big a turkey should be for x amount of people? We'll have 6 adults and 2 kids for Thanksgiving this year, and I want to get the turkey ordered now. (We order from a butcher and get it fresh!)

Thanks!

It is generally recommended that you have one pound per person to allow for seconds and leftovers. I usually do more than that so I have more white meat. I like large toms because they are very meaty and you get lots of meat from the breast.

Wow... 25 pounds??? I don't think that would fit in my oven!! I have a European kitchen... everything is semi-microscopic. Thanks for the tips - I'll take them to the butcher and see what he says.
