One of my flylady emails had the "shelf life" of different condiments. It was actually perfect timing for me, because my refrigerator froze up this weekend and I had to throw some things out and start fresh.

Of course if something has a "use by date" you would want to take that into consideration as well. What I plan to do is when I put the ketchup in the fridge, for example, write the date 2 months from now with a sharpie so I know that's when it needs to be thrown away.

If anyone has heard differently, please let us know. If you have other things to add, let us know, too!

mayonnaise--2 months refrigerated

mustard--6-8 months refrigerated; 2 years unopened in pantry

Jelly/jam--1 year refrigerated and unopened in pantry

salad dressing--3 months refrigerated; 1 year unopened in pantry

pickles--1-2 months refrigerated; 1 year unopened in pantry

ketchup--2 months refrigerated; 1 year unopened in pantry

Salsa/hot sauce--1 month refrigerated; 1 year unopened in pantry

olives--1 month refrigerated; 1 year unopened in pantry

omgosh, this is awesome. I cleaned out my fridge yesterday (at the suggestion of someone on here, lol) and I was wondering about this and was going to look it up! lol. Thanks so much for posting it!

I always wondered too. Salsa keeps longer than i thought- I always threw it out after like 2 weeks. I'm surprised about the jelly too. Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to start writing the date on these kind of things when I open them so i don't have to wonder how old it is.
