I just got the Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealer a while ago - for about $10 or so at Target! I LOVE it - it's a little hand held sealer that only works with these special little freezer type baggies!

Have you tried it? Do you like it??

So far, I've only used the baggies to hold grilled chicken in while waiting to use the leftovers in a future meal! So far so good! I was wondering though what else it could be used for and how it might prolong the life of some foods. Like say cheese?? I just love the fact that I can get in there, get what I want and then re-seal it!

I was also told that the baggies wash out great in the top of the dishwasher! BUT, was told not to put RAW meats in them??? What do you all think??

Any ideas on how to get the most for my money???

TIA!!!

I have one. I'm a bit dissapointed in it. It doesn't seal as tight as I needed it to do. So for using it to prolong the life of cheese in the fridge and meat in the freezer I guess it's OK but nothing you want to be totally air free and safe for long term.

I used it to seal up all our pumpkin seeds from Halloween. I dried all the seeds like I usually do then sealed them up. Well last month I had to throw two big bags out because they were moldy and the other day I had to throw all the rest I sealed up out for the same reason. I know it was the bags not sealing and not my drying because I placed some seeds in canning jars and sealed those with my regular vaccuum sealer to give for gifts and those are all fine.

I love it! but i've only ever used the big vacuum sealer and this one. i just hate the big sealer. IMO it wastes so much of that big plastic roll.

SAHM- why aren't you supposed to put raw meat in them?

Sorry -that did sound strange! You can use raw meat - but I was told not to if I plan on re-using the baggies (after washing them in the dishwasher of course)! I guess it's kinda like the cutting board rule - even though you wash them they might not be COMPLETELY clean!

I was wondering how well they work though - I'm sorry to hear they aren't as good as the big one!

I saw another post about freezing lunch meats and started wondering about them too...

I love it.I did have a hard time at first getting it to seal around meat good. What I did is lift up the oposite corner of the bag of where the seal is and lift it up and it sucks out more of the air and seals it good.
