I almost forgot I have a BUNCH of apples. My brother gets them at work for Christmas, and he doesn't like apples.

I just checked them, and they are all ok. Probably slightly overripe now, but they aren't bad by a long shot.

There are 24 Red Delicious apples. I want to do SOMETHING with them tomorrow...but I'm not sure what. If I can't think of anything, I'll just make crock pot applesauce, put it in foodsaver bags and freeze it. I'd like to do something else, anything, but I dunno what.

What I have: One of those apple peeler/corer/slicer thingies, a crock pot, a big stock pot (5 quarts+?), a large variety of spices/seasonings, Foodsaver machine.

Any ideas? Suggestions for something different?

I got this recipe from a recipe web site quite a while ago and make these often:

Applewood Farmhouse Fritters

1 1/2 cup self rising flour
1 Tablespoon of sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 Tablespoon oil
3 Cups of apples, peeled & chopped finely
Hot vegetable oil for frying equal to 1/2 inch deep
Powdered sugar
1.Combine dry ingredients.
2.Add eggs, milk, 1 tablespoonful oil, and apples.
3.Stir just until combined.
4.Drop batter by spoonfuls into hot oil.
5.Cook 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
6.Drain on paper towels.
7.Roll fritters in powdered sugar.

Unfortunately, red delicious apples aren't good cooking apples...they're really an 'eating' apple. Maybe if you buy some better cooking apples, like granny smiths or something, and mix them with the red delicious, that might work for sauce.

My SIL makes an AWESOME baked apple dish in the crock pot. You could try and see if the red delicious would work.

Usy your peeler/corer thingy and then slice the apples (maybe 4-6?). Put in the crockpot with a couple of cinnamon sticks and turn it on high, cook for a couple of hours. Serve the apples warm over vanilla ice cream. It is sooooo good!!!!! (I think it's a WW recipe too, if you eat it without the ice cream )

Well thanks everyone!

I think I"m going to do a few of the recipes.

I know they aren't the best cooking apples (the absolute best I've found were the "gone wild" apples from our property - ancient trees with nice firm SUPER flavored apples!), but I'm not a big eater of Red Delicious - they are just so...bland and watery to me.

Thanks a lot! I'd feel so bad if they spoiled!
